Loop Industries Drops – Hindenburg Makes Claims, Shorts Stock

Shares of Loop Industries  (LOOP) – Get Report lost a third of their market value on Tuesday after the activist investment group Hindenburg published a report lambasting the plastics-recycling company and said it took a short position.

The investment firm said it interviewed former employees, competitors, industry experts and company partners as part of its investigation and concluded that Loop is “smoke and mirrors with no viable technology.”

Loop, Terrebonne, Quebec, didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Former employees told Hindenburg that Loop operated two labs, one reserved for its “two twenty-something lead scientist brothers and their father” and one run by rank-and-file scientists who were unable to replicate results.

The investment firm said that a Loop employee told Hindenburg that scientists were pressured by Chief Executive Daniel Solomita to “lie about the results of the company’s process internally. We have obtained internal documents and photographs to

Texas Tech drops third-straight Big 12 game in 31-15 loss to No. 24 Iowa State

AMES, Iowa (AP) — With an offense that did just about whatever it wanted and a defense that was dominant deep into the game, No. 24 Iowa State put away Texas Tech to get out to its best start in Big 12 play in 18 years.

Brock Purdy passed for 302 yards and two touchdowns, Breece Hall rushed for 135 yards and two scores, and the Cyclones won 31-15 Saturday for their fifth straight win over the Red Raiders.

Iowa State remained tied with Kansas State atop the Big 12 standings and have won three straight to open conference play for the first time since 2002 and only the second time since 1950.

It was Iowa State’s most complete performance this season, but coach Matt Campbell said there is plenty to clean up before the Cyclones (3-1, 3-0 Big 12) head to No. 10 Oklahoma State after an open date

No Earth roller coaster could possibly compare to a 130,000 mph (209,000 kph) flyover of Jupiter. That’s what NASA’s Juno spacecraft experienced in June with a close pass of the gas giant.

A striking new NASA video re-creates the scenery from this thrilling space adventure.

Citizen Scientist Kevin Gill, who also works as a software engineer at NASA, harnessed data from Juno’s JunoCam, the camera that’s been delivering lavish views of Jupiter since the spacecraft arrived at the planet in 2016.

“The sequence combines 41 JunoCam still images digitally projected onto a sphere, with a virtual ‘camera’ providing views of Jupiter from different angles as the spacecraft speeds by,” said NASA in a statement on Thursday.

As the only successor to the 4G cellular technology used in smartphones and mobile computers, 5G was guaranteed to be a hit at some point — the only real question was how long it would take to truly go mainstream. This week, a report from Counterpoint Research suggests that a steep fall in 5G phone prices helped kick their U.S. sales into high gear, though the firm notes that the numbers will likely change substantially following Apple’s entry into the 5G market this month.

The trend lines are clear: Average selling prices of 5G phones fell by $218 from January 2020 to July 2020, reaching an all-time low of $730 — a drop of roughly 30% — while 5G phones increased their share of total smartphone sales from 3.3% to 11.6% during the same period. Counterpoint notes that the August percentage is an even higher 13.5%, aided in part by

Tesla Drops Solar Roof Pricing

Tesla has updated their Solar Roof webpage and dropped prices for the product on the final day of the company’s third quarter.

The webpage redesign highlights a new durability comparison video of a Solar Roof tile compared to traditional roof tiles. While not the most scientific of tests, the Solar Roof tile survives the striking blow of a hammer while the other two tiles crack and shatter. The Solar Roof tile seems to have a little more flexibility when struck which could be beneficial for situations such as hail storms.

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Google has postponed the Australian roll-out of News Showcase citing regulatory complications, just three months after announcing the product, as the U.S. internet giant grapples with one of the most audacious attempts to police its activities.

After naming Australia, Germany and Brazil as markets where it would start paying publishers to feature their news, the Alphabet Inc unit dropped Australia from the product’s launch this week because its antitrust body has since pushed for laws forcing Google to pay royalties for content industry-wide.

Google said it has therefore “paused” contracts with five local publishers whose news was due to feature on News Showcase, which presents content on swipeable cards it dubs story panels.

Apple drops its App Store fee for events forced online by the pandemic

Apple is waiving the customary 30% fee it charges businesses that sell tickets to online events in the company’s App Store for the rest of the year.

Apple suspended the fee to give businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic more time to adapt to operating almost entirely online, a spokesman told CNBC. App store developers such as Airbnb, the home-rental company, has expressed interest in holding more events online, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Earlier this week, Apple agreed to exempt Facebook events from the 30% fee. This summer, the social media company introduced paid online events as a way for small businesses to make some money. Facebook said it would not be taking a cut of event fees until August 2021. Apple’s suspension of its 30% fee means that sellers of online events will be able to keep all their earnings, minus taxes.

Apple expanded the fee suspension on
