The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (‘Fan Edition’) aims to bring you the flagship S20 experience without the scary price tag. Obviously some sacrifices in specification have had to be made but, thankfully, one area where the S20 FE fares particularly well is the camera.

The photographic specs of the FE are admittedly slightly reduced from those of the standard S20 but it costs a whopping $300 less and much remains unchanged from the more expensive model. Furthermore, there’s one key area where the S20 FE actually outclasses its much pricier sibling.

Let’s take a look at the main camera specs:

Galaxy S20 ($1000)

  • Rear camera: 12MP f/1.8 ultra-wide, 64MP f/2 wide, 12MP f/2.2 telephoto with OIS 3x Hybrid Optic Zoom, 30x Super Resolution Zoom
  • Front camera: 10MP, f/2.2

Galaxy S20 FE ($700)

  • Rear: 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, 12MP f/1.8 wide with OIS, 8MP f/2.4 telephoto with 3x Optical Zoom, 30x Super Resolution Zoom
  • Front: 33MP f/2.2

While the S20 FE misses out on the 64-Megapixel main camera of the standard Galaxy S20, it offers a similar triple-camera setup and beats the S20’s selfie resolution with it’s 32-Megapixel front-facing camera. Furthermore, Samsung’s unique software features are also available on the S20 FE. For example ‘Single Take’ mode captures multiple shots from each of the phone’s individual cameras, including various stills, video and short animations with just one button press.

In addition to its excellent camera features, the S20 FE gives you a 6.5-inch 120Hz OLED, larger than the regular S20 and very rare at this price point, as well as a massive 4,500mAh battery, up from 4000mAh on the Galaxy S20 and the same Snapdragon 865 chipset used by the entire Galaxy S20 range, including the $1,400 Galaxy S20 Ultra..

Launching on October 2, the Galaxy S20 FE is currently available for pre-order at only $600 from Amazon and $550 from Best Buy. Samsung is also offering a trade-in value of up to $400 for recent used handsets, making the Galaxy S20 FE even more affordable.
