E-Commerce Economics Are Broken, Says Tech Startup Tradeswell. It Has A Plan To Help Fix Them.

Paul Palmieri was looking at various direct-to-consumer startups as possible investments for his venture capital fund when he decided the e-commerce economics didn’t add up.

“I definitely saw a lot of opportunity to invest in direct to consumer brands, but every time we would get close, we would look at it and say, gosh, the numbers are somewhat broken,” he said.

While the sales potential is great, the fees brands pay to what Palmieri calls the ecosystem of e-commerce enablers—for advertising, for keywords, for warehousing, for fulfillment—are destroying margins.

So instead of investing in a DTC brand, Palmieri decided to invest in starting a company that would help brands large and small master the new math of e-commerce.

The company, Tradeswell, emerged from stealth mode last week after beta

Twenty years after Microsoft waged its own antitrust battle with the U.S. government, former CEO Steve Ballmer is betting that Congress won’t break up Big Tech this time around.

In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday (below), Ballmer was reacting to a U.S. House antitrust subcommittee report released this week that found challenges presented by the dominance and business practices of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google.

“I’ll bet money that they will not be broken up,” Ballmer told CNBC.

The 450-page report from the subcommittee’s Democratic leaders concludes a 16-month investigation into the four companies as the operators of major online markets. It finds that the market power of the tech giants “has diminished consumer choice, eroded innovation and entrepreneurship in the U.S. economy, weakened the vibrancy

Doppler weather radar for Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., is broken

That radar, a WSR-88D model, is the most powerful one tasked with scanning the skies in northern Virginia, central Maryland, the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and the District. It’s part of a network of 159 such Doppler radars maintained by the NWS nationwide. Each radar emits high-frequency pulses of energy, a portion of which bounce off precipitation targets and offer valuable information from inside a storm.

While the radar is down, forecasters will rely on airport radars and NWS radars at adjacent offices in State College, Pa.; Pittsburgh; Mount Holly, N.J.; Wakefield, Va.; Dover, Del.; Blacksburg, Va.; and Charleston.

This network of radars can stitch together a reasonable representation of storm surveys.

The region has some of the best radar coverage in the country thanks to four smaller, less-powerful “terminal” radars at the three major airports — Dulles, Reagan National and BWI Marshall — as well as Andrews Air

Crysis Remastered: Broken on Xbox One X, OK on PC

What did you want out of Crysis Remastered? Having an answer to that question is crucial before you decide whether or not to buy. The game looks fine, even as a modern release, but it’s only going to look better as hardware improves, just like the original, and plenty of the gameplay itself feels dated, and out of step with the quality of the visuals.

The updated version of 2007’s Crysis leans into the game’s legacy of being more of a testing tool for high-end systems than a game, although the game is surprisingly fun, even today. Crysis Remastered was already delayed after a leaked trailer made fans grumble about the graphical changes, and the final product doesn’t exactly work on Xbox One X.

But the game itself? That’s still fun. Let’s take a look at how the game stacks up on PC and Xbox One X.
