After patenting several foldable smartphone designs over the last few months, OPPO is back with an innovative design for traditional candy bar-style smartphones. The latest OPPO patent approved by CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) reveals the smartphone with a waterfall display and an under-display selfie camera.
While the company filed for the patent in November last year, it only got approved earlier today. The documentation includes a total of four design iterations with a few minor changes.

The report finds that Samsung Display led the smartphone display market with 50 percent revenue share followed by BOE Technology and Tianma Microelectronics in the first half of the year. The smartphone display panel revenues recorded a jump of 3 percent year-over-year in H1 2020 due to the shipment of high-end OLED panels to smartphone customers. The top-three vendors capturedalmost 73 percent revenue share in the global smartphone display panel market in H1 2020.
The chances are you are reading these words on a smartphone or computer screen. For around the last 10 years, these types of screens have been based on a display technology composed of so-called thin film transistors. These are inorganic transistors which require very little power, and they have proven themselves very capable given their widespread adoption. SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is studying whether data from the new on-board unit (OBU) in vehicles can be pushed to smartphones, allowing them to be used as an alternative display screen for electronic road pricing (ERP) information.
This is a “possible future upgrade” for the OBU, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor in Parliament on Monday (Oct 5).
It was announced last month that installation of the OBU – replacing the current in-vehicle units (IU) – will start in the second half of 2021. These will be used when Singapore switches to the satellite-based next-generation ERP system in mid-2023.
Dr Khor said authorities are consulting workshops and authorised motor vehicle agents on how best to install the OBUs.

According to display expert Ross Young, Apple won’t release a new iPhone SE model in the spring of 2021. Instead, a successor to the low-cost iPhone arrives in the spring of 2022.
Those waiting for the update may be rewarded with several new technologies. Young says the new iPhone SE model will sport 5G support, a 6.06-inch display, and a dual-lens camera setup.
