10 Essential Leadership Qualities For The Age Of Artificial Intelligence

AI and automation will change the very nature of work. It’s really important that leaders don’t ignore this AI- and data-driven revolution – what I call the “intelligence revolution” – or allow other leaders in the organization to ignore it. Working out how to use AI, dealing with people-related challenges, avoiding the ethical pitfalls of AI, making sure you have the right technology in place, and so on – all are key considerations for the business leaders of today and tomorrow.

This technology revolution will change what it means to be a good leader. It makes sense, then, that business leaders in the intelligence revolution will need to adapt. The way we run businesses will change, and the successful leaders of the future will need a slightly different skillset from the traditional skills associated with leaders.

4 Essential Tasks New Bootstrapped Businesses Should Outsource

5 min read

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

When you’re bootstrapping your startup, it can be tempting to try to do everything yourself in an attempt to save money. After all, when you don’t have VC backing on your side, you have to stretch every dollar!

However, a do-it-all mentality could ultimately backfire in the long run. If you want to make the most of your financial resources and achieve the growth that will take your startup to the next level, you’re going to have to outsource.

No matter what industry you’re working in, each startup will have essential, time-consuming tasks that can easily take your attention away from the big-picture issues that affect your company’s long-term health. Ignoring these “everyday” tasks will limit your growth — but so will spending too much of your own time on them.

The solution, of course, is

Cutting-edge cyber tech will be essential for protecting new ‘war fighting domain’ of space

When the U.S. Space Force was created by an act of Congress in 2019, it was an acknowledgement by government leaders that the country needed military-level protection on more than just the ground. A combination of technology advancement and cybsersecurity threats had forced the U.S. to protect public and private assets orbiting the Earth — and potentially other planets in the not-too-distant future.

“We now see space as a war fighting domain,” said Maj. Gen. John E. Shaw (pictured, left), commander of the Combined Force Space Component Command, U.S. Space Command and Commander of the Space Operations Command, U.S. Space Force, at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. “There’s nothing that we do on the cutting-edge of space that isn’t heavily reliant on the cutting-edge of cybersecurity. Space and cyber are forever intertwined.”

Shaw spoke with John Furrier, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the Space & Cybersecurity

Biology textbooks may need to be re-written, with scientists finding a new piece of DNA essential to forming male sex organs in mice — ScienceDaily

Biology textbooks may need to be re-written, with scientists finding a new piece of DNA essential to forming male sex organs in mice.

An international research collaboration with The University of Queensland found the Y-chromosome gene that makes mice male is made up of two different DNA parts, not one, as scientists had previously assumed.

UQ’s Institute of Molecular Biosciences Emeritus Professor Peter Koopman said the critical DNA fragment had been hidden from researchers for more than 30 years.

“Expression of the Y chromosomal gene Sry is required for male development in mammals and since its discovery in 1990 has been considered a one-piece gene,” he said.

“Sry turns out to have a cryptic second part, which nobody suspected was there, that is essential for determining the sex of male mice. We have called the two-piece gene Sry-T.”

The scientists tested their theory and found that male mice (XY) lacking

Mosquitos lost an essential gene with no ill effects

University of Maryland entomologists discovered that a gene critical for survival in other insects is missing in mosquitos—the gene responsible for properly arranging the insects’ segmented bodies. The researchers also found that a related gene evolved to take over the missing gene’s job. Although laboratory studies have shown that similar genes can be engineered to substitute for one another, this is the first time that scientists identified a gene that naturally evolved to perform the same critical function as a related gene long after the two genes diverged down different evolutionary paths.

The work emphasizes the importance of caution in genetic studies that use model animals to make conclusions across different species. It also points to a new potential avenue for research

The Essential cameras look like Arlo’s Pro line, but offer lower prices.

Arlo

Arlo has been busy this year adding home security cameras to its new lineup of Essential cameras. Unlike the high-end Pro line of Arlo cams, the Essential cameras come at more affordable prices. First we got the $130 Arlo Essential Spotlight Camera, then the Netgear spinoff brand introduced the $200 Arlo Essential Wire-Free Video Doorbell.

Now Arlo is back with two new Essential cameras — the $150 Essential XL Spotlight Camera and the $100 Arlo Essential Camera. The Essential XL is available now for preorder; the Essential camera will be available at Walmart “this holiday season,” according to Arlo’s press release.

Arlo’s Essential XL Spotlight camera can go a full year on a single battery charge

Arlo is adding two new models to its affordable Essential series of security cameras, the Essential XL Spotlight Camera and Essential Camera. The highlight of the former is a battery that can power the device for 12 months on a single charge. It also features an integrated spotlight, two-way audio, motion detection and a built-in siren. The camera captures footage at 1080p with a 130-degree field of view and includes built-in color night vision. The entire device is also weather-resistant. The spotlight turns on automatically when the camera detects motion. It’s also possible to turn the light on manually through the Arlo app.

Meanwhile, the Essential is an even more affordable version of the company’s recently announced Essential Spotlight Camera. Like the XL Spotlight, the Essential Camera features 1080p video capture, two-way audio, a built siren and a camera with a 130-degree field of view. Battery life on this model

Apple TV Plus review: Big-budget originals for a low price, but not essential yet

Almost a year after the launch of Apple TV Plus, the tech giant’s entry into the streaming wars remains a bit of an anomaly. At $5 a month, Apple TV Plus is the lowest-priced premium, ad-free streaming service around but still packs high-end features like 4K resolution, HDR and mobile downloads. After a slow start it now has more than 30 exclusive, big-budget shows and movies with stars like Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks. That number is tiny compared to Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBO Max, however, in part because Apple TV Plus has almost no back catalog of shows and movies to scroll through.
