Apple’s Oct. 13 virtual event has come and gone. We got a slate of new devices — the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the HomePod Mini smart speaker. But we’re still without the tech giant’s long-rumored smart tracker tag competitor, thought to be called AirTags.
We’re crossing our fingers that AirTags might finally make their grand entrance at Apple’s rumored November event, when the tech giant is expected to announce the first Mac laptop with Apple silicon. Otherwise, it might not happen until March 2021, by tech analyst Jon Prosser’s estimations.
The AirTag tech was hinted at in the code for iOS 13 last summer, but rumors were circulating even before that
While most of space is vast and empty—hence the name “space”—the reality is that there are countless asteroids, comets and other debris zooming through our solar system as well. Most keep a safe distance, but many do, in fact, crash into Earth. A new IMAX movie, “Asteroid Hunters,” takes a look at the threat of a large asteroid impact on Earth, and what scientists can do to either prevent such a catastrophe, or at least properly prepare to survive with a minimal loss of life.
NASA does its best to monitor asteroids and their paths, and to keep track of those that enter Earth’s atmosphere and impact the planet’s surface. There are about
Costco posted much stronger-than-expected sales data for the month of September.
Costco said net sales for the five weeks ending on October 5 were up 16.9% from last year at $16.84 billion, while comparable store sales surged by a much better-than-expected 15.5%. E-commerce sales, Costco said, rose by staggering 90.3% from last year as customers increasingly used online shopping, as well as curbside pickup, to buy home-based staples amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“September sales were positively impacted by two holiday shifts, Labor Day in the U.S. and Chuseok/Moon Festival in Asia,” Costco said in a statement. “The estimated positive impact on September sales was slightly less than 100 basis points worldwide, half relating to each holiday.”
The September sales figures extended a trend the Costco updated last month with stronger-than-expected fiscal fourth quarter earnings of $3.04 per share, a 13% increase from last year, as revenues reached $52.3 billion thanks
Hope might be a more effective coping strategy than resilience, especially during a unique crisis like the pandemic.
Katy Dineen, an assistant lecturer in moral responsibility and researcher in the philosophy of education, believes hope is a better mechanism for setting goals and achieving them during uncertainty.
Some experts promote resilience, grit, and the ability to bounce back as highly desirable traits, but Dineen argues these same traits could potentially deepen mental health problems.
She says prioritizing hope over resilience can help you to set realistic, actionable goals for getting through tough times.

The word “resilience” has been used frequently throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Medics, business leaders, and teachers have all been encouraged to build resilience in order to address the needs of their communities.
However, advocating resilience in the current context may not be the best way forward. Another option is hope.
Richard Miller is an expert in child development and a professor at the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamic at Arizona State University.
He says science has documented how teaching hope as both a cognitive function and a practice can be a powerful strategy for success.
Miller believes that teaching children to imagine their goals encourages the brain to plan and prepare for future challenges and opportunities.

On Erin Gruwell’s first day as a high school English teacher, she faced a classroom of 150 “at risk” freshmen. Most of these kids, statistically, were going to fail. They were tough, their young lives already defined by poverty, gangs, violence, and low expectations. These students, she wrote, knew nearly every “four-letter word” except one: hope.
Yet four years later, every one of her “at risk” students at Wilson High School in Long
US stocks climbed on Thursday on continued fiscal stimulus negotiations, led by mega-cap tech giants like Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft.
House Speak Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin had multiple conversations on Thursday, as the two try to work out a fiscal stimulus deal before the upcoming recess in Congress.
Any fiscal stimulus deal will include another round of direct stimulus checks, according to Mnuchin.
Initial weekly jobless claims fell to 837,000, which was lower than expected and suggested that the economic recovery is trudging along.

John F. Kennedy inspired America with his big vision for a bold America. In his first year of office, President Kennedy established the United States Agency for International Development to serve as a beacon for freedom, a counterweight to the Soviet Union, and a model for newly independent nations breaking free from the bondage of colonialism. The agency soon became a respected leader throughout the world — serving as a lodestar of a powerful, generous, and influential America abroad.
That vision — and success — persisted for decades.

We’re not sure exactly what Amazon plans to unveil during its fall hardware event on Thursday, but if history is a guide, we’re expecting a truckload of new products.
At last year’s event, Amazon unleashed a firehose of new products, from the Dolby Atmos-enabled Echo Studio and a next-gen Echo speaker to Echo Frames glasses, the Echo Loop ring, the Echo Dot with Clock, and the kid-focused Echo Glow. There was also a new Eero mesh router, a couple of new Ring cameras, an Alexa-enabled oven, and even the upcoming Ring Fetch dog tracker that’s slated to work with Amazon’s (also upcoming) Sidewalk neighborhood network (more on that in a bit).
We’re betting Amazon will once again trot out a parade of new devices on Thursday; however, we’re not quite sure what to expect.

2 Javan rhino calves were spotted at a protected area in Indonesia
The species can now only be found in Ujung Kulon National Park
The presence of the two calves brings hope for the survival of the species
“Extremely rare” Javan rhinoceros calves were spotted at a national park in Indonesia, sparking hopes for the future of the critically endangered creatures.
Authorities announced on Sunday that two Javan rhinoceros calves were spotted at Indonesia’s Ujung Kulon National Park, AFP reports. According to the outlet, the two calves were seen from March to August in footage from close to 100 camera traps in the facility. A male and a female, the two calves are now named Helen and Luther, and their presence now brings the number of the critically endangered Javan rhinoceros to 74.
This brings hope for the future of the species, which is actually the most
