Google is rolling out what it says is the biggest overhaul of Google Analytics in nearly a decade. The revamped platform features new machine learning capabilities, unified app and web reporting, native integrations and privacy updates.
With the redesign, Google said it’s aiming to provide a more modern approach to data analytics and measurement.
Building on the foundation of the App + Web property that Google introduced in beta last year, the new Google Analytics has machine learning models baked in, along with new integrations between Analytics and Google Ads, and new controls to help customers better manage their data.
The new machine learning models can automatically alert customers to significant trends in their data, like calculating churn or purchase probability. The new property type also includes unified measurement to remove data fragmentation across devices and platforms, and more granular data controls for things like ads personalization and activity sharing.
CNBC.com’s MacKenzie Sigalos brings you the day’s top business news headlines. On today’s show, CNBC.com Apple reporter Kif Leswing breaks down the tech giant’s big iPhone 12 reveal, including the implications for the 5G network. Here’s everything Apple just announced at its iPhone 12 event
Apple just wrapped up its big iPhone 12 event, where it announced four new iPhone 12 models, all of which support new faster 5G networks.
It also announced a new smart home speaker, called the HomePod Mini, and some fun accessories for the new iPhones that use magnets to attach to them.
Big-box retailers like Walmart, Target try to beat Amazon on speed by focusing on curbside pickup
Although some of the wind was taken out of its sails by way of a leak, the Apple event has delivered the official word on the new line of iPhone 12 devices, which will sport 5G functionality that Apple says will be beneficial for gaming.
Apple started out by showcasing the iPhone 12. It has smooth, flat edges and a 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display, with twice as many pixels as iPhone 11. Apple claims this will lead to better-looking photos, sharper text, and higher brightness. The physical size of the device is 11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter than the iPhone 11. iPhone 12 is said to offer tougher smartphone glass than any other phone, making it the most durable on the market. Apple heavily touted the phone’s 5G support (more on that below), though it noted that peak speeds of up to 4Gbps will
A team led by scientists in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has engineered powerful new antimicrobial molecules from toxic proteins found in wasp venom. The team hopes to develop the molecules into new bacteria-killing drugs, an important advancement considering increasing numbers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria which can cause illness such as sepsis and tuberculosis.
In the study, published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers altered a highly toxic small protein from a common Asian wasp species, Vespula lewisii, the Korean yellow-jacket wasp. The alterations enhanced the molecule’s ability to kill bacterial cells while greatly reducing its ability to harm human cells. In animal models, the scientists showed that this family of new antimicrobial molecules made with these alterations could protect mice from otherwise lethal bacterial infections.
There is an urgent need for new drug treatments for bacterial infections, as

Houston Methodist researchers found that mice harboring human glioblastoma tumors in their brains had greatly enhanced survival and weight gain when given a newly developed prodrug. This mitochondrial-targeted prodrug — an inactive compound that cancer cells selectively metabolize to produce an active toxic drug — also greatly improves outcomes when coupled with standard therapies of radiation and/or chemotherapy. The drug selectively targets and destroys the DNA inside the glioblastoma cell mitochondria (the energy factory of the cancer cell) leaving normal cells intact.
In an Oct. 8 study published online in Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, investigators used a second generation prodrug called MP-Pt(IV) to target the deadly cells of glioblastoma tumors, a brain cancer that is almost always fatal and has no cure. Life expectancy in humans with glioblastoma ranges from a few months to two years.

Race to the top
Nissan, the ninth-largest automaker in the world by revenue, has had some success bringing technological innovations to market. It was the first carmaker to offer a mass-market battery-electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf, in 2010. In 2016, the company introduced its ProPILOT 1 technology, which allowed a car to automatically follow the car in front of it while driving on the

Apple has confirmed that its next event from Apple Park will be streamed on October 13th.
On Tuesday, October 13th, Apple will finally reveal its 2020 iPhone models. Traditionally, Apple not only would have announced a new flagship phone by this point in the year, but those phones would already be shipping to customers. Of course, 2020 isn’t a traditional year, and Apple confirmed months ago that the iPhone 12 wouldn’t be ready in late September. But even though we finally have an official date for the iPhone 12 event, the phones are still leaking, and on Thursday,
