F(x)tec has announced a rather unique smartphone that combines a slider form-factor, a physical keyboard, and a choice of operating systems a rare combination for 2020.
The F(x)tec Pro1-X is an angled slider smartphone equipped with a 5.99-inch AMOLED monitor featuring a 2160×1080 resolution as well as a five-row 66-key landscape QWERTY keyboard.
The handset is powered by a relatively outdated Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip that is accompanied by 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X memory as well as 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.

The increased temperature and acidification of our oceans over the next century have been argued to cause significant physical changes in an economically important marine species.
Scientists from the University of Plymouth exposed blue mussels (Mytilus edulis) to current and future levels of ocean acidification (OA) or warming (W), as well as both together – commonly known as OAW.
Initial comparison of mussel shells showed that warming alone led to increased shell growth, but increasing warming and acidification led to decreased shell growth indicating that OA was dissolving their shells.

Across the U.S., the relaxation of statewide physical distancing measures that are designed to control the COVID-19 pandemic frequently resulted in an immediate reversal of public health gains against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease, researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and colleagues reported.
Looking at data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the researchers found a gradual but steady decline in viral transmission rates during the eight weeks immediately preceding relaxation of physical distancing rules. But almost immediately after those rules were relaxed, most states reversed course. Eight weeks after restrictions were lifted or loosened, only nine of 51 still had low rates of transmission.

By assessing the physics of saliva droplet formation and subsequent spray while a person speaks, researchers have shown the words we say play a role in how many droplets we spread — and how far they go.
The paper, published in Physical Review Fluids,explores the mechanics behind transmission of droplets through speech. Manouk Abkarian of the University of Montpellier, France, and Howard Stone of Princeton University used high-speed videos to study how a talking person forms saliva droplets.

IIT Roorkee To Set Up A Technology Hub In Cyber Physical Systems

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee will set up a technology hub under the National Mission of Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). The hub — iHub– will be one of the 25 hubs being set up in the country with financial support from the Department of Science and Technology. The hub seeks to serve as a one-stop solution for 356 fundamental technologies. The hub, as per a statement, will focus on projects in device technology and materials across health research; defence research and development; electronics and information technology; housing and urban affairs; new and renewable energy; and telecommunications and atomic energy.
Under the iHub, IIT Roorkee statement said, the institute proposes to develop several products related to CPS in collaboration with various national and international academic and industrial partners.
