With the Covid-19 pandemic still raging and the economy battered, many consumers are likely to be tightening their purse strings.
Perhaps keeping that in mind, Samsung has delivered a “lite” flagship smartphone – the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. This “Fan Edition” gets a $800 price cut from the flagship S20 Ultra ($1,898) launched in March.
This means Samsung had to shed some features from the S20 Ultra. The phone comes with 8GB of system memory (instead of 12GB found in the S20 Ultra), a lower-resolution display (2,400 x 1,080 pixels instead of 3,200 x 1,400 pixels), a plastic rear (instead of Gorilla Glass) and an optical in-display fingerprint sensor (instead of an ultrasonic one).
The camera also gets a downgrade. The S20 FE features a rear triple-camera system instead of S20 Ultra’s quad-camera system that comprises a high-resolution 108-megapixel (MP) wide-angle camera. The S20 FE’s telephoto camera has only a
Zhiyun has released another accessory, the Smooth-XS smartphone gimbal, for those who regularly use mobile content in their business or for leisure. How does it compare?
Gimbals are increasingly becoming a natural choice of kit investment not just for professionals creating commercial content with camera bodies but also for those who want to create more polished mobile content for social media, either to supplement an existing business with quick but sleek-looking content or for personal leisure, such as family or travel memories.
This is where smartphone gimbals come into play, and I got to review the Zhiyun Smooth-XS, which is aimed at users looking to create content on the go.
Smooth-XS is a compact and lightweight smartphone gimbal that comes in four different colors. Coated with anti-slip rubber, the grip is comfortable to hold. It measures 69 mm in length, 56 mm in width, and 267 mm in height.
Yelp’s new Business Accused of Racist Behavior Alert is an extension of its Public Attention Alert.
The consumer review platform Yelp has added a new feature that allows users to flag businesses accused of racism.
Noorie Malik, the company’s vice president of user operations, released a statement Thursday on the site’s blog detailing the new initiative. “At Yelp,” she said, “we value diversity, inclusion and belonging, both internally and on our platform, which means we have a zero-tolerance policy to racism.”
“We know these values are important to our users,” Malik noted, “and now more than ever, consumers are increasingly conscious of the types of businesses they patronize and support.”
Her statement goes on to reference the police protests this summer that
Sony continues to buck conventional smartphone trends.
Its latest, the Xperia 1 II flagship smartphone (available on Lazada), is taller than usual because of the unusual 21:9 screen aspect ratio it first introduced last year.
The Xperia 1 II also eschews the hole-punch selfie camera and the in-display fingerprint reader – used by almost all smartphone vendors to achieve a near-bezel-less display.
Instead, the Xperia 1 II has relatively thick top and bottom bezels to accommodate its front camera and dual stereo speakers. The phone also has a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader.
In addition, you will find a headphone jack, a port that has been removed from most high-end phones. The SIM card tray can be removed without an eject tool and comes with a microSD card slot that lets users expand the phone’s 256GB of built-in storage by up to an additional 1TB.

Glassdoor is now letting employees write diversity and inclusion reviews for companies in a way to make employers more transparent. Employees will be able to rate and review companies on how they treat employees based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other underrepresented groups.
In a poll, Mill Valley, California-based Glassdoor, which has ratings on more than a million companies, found that job seekers and employees trust the employees already working at a company when it comes to understanding the state of diversity and inclusion at a company. Glassdoor said that 76% of job seekers and employees today report that a diverse workforce is an important factor when evaluating companies and job offers. The company said these new features are part of its public commitment to leveraging its product and resources to help achieve equity in and out of the workplace.

Regardless of how the immediate U.S. efforts to ban TikTok and WeChat turn out – temporary court injunctions have halted both bans – the issues raised cry out for a more comprehensive approach to ensuring the security of apps used by U.S. citizens. As in so many cases, sunlight is likely to be the best disinfectant. Before embarking on censorship and app bans, U.S. policymakers should put in place requirements for transparency and accountability reviews for all apps, not just those with foreign or Chinese ownership.
These reviews should check for security issues including backdoors and eavesdropping code that allow information to be transmitted to foreign intelligence agencies. They should also look for evidence of censorship and disinformation campaigns. Such reviews would be a first step to protect the U.S. against hostile surveillance and manipulation.
TikTok has proposed the beginnings of such a regime. In testimony last week before the
