Mad Science Los Angeles, based in Sylmar, has educational activities for children and is gearing up for a Halloween event.
“Our mission is to bring fun, educational science to children. Our main age range is, generally, we like to say K to 6th. However, we do have some pre-school programming,” said Susan Kilanowski, managing director for Mad Science Los Angeles.
Mad Science is an organization that sets up events and learning seminars mainly for afterschool programs.
They also used to host different events with large groups, but when COVID-19 hit they had to pivot to virtual learning.
“Doing things virtually definitely has some other fun ways that kids can do science at home.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way a lot of folks interact with the world around them, and that’s had a big impact on the racing world. Fans have often been forced to watch from home while some series either test everyone in its “bubble” religiously or hope that everyone will follow the honor system to report health issues. It’s been the same situation in IndyCar—but now Team Penske is utilizing its relationship with sponsor Hitachi to make the paddock just a little bit safer.
On Thursday, we had a chance to chat with Justin Bean, who focuses on marketing Hitachi Vantara’s smart spaces technology. Basically, smart spaces utilize video analytics and lidar to evaluate the ways people move within a space. So, as Bean noted, it has been used to great effect in stadiums to let people know where the shortest

The measure was introduced earlier this year to offer business protection from potential COVID-19 litigation. Opposition groups feel as though the measure could limit responsibility as businesses reopen amid an ongoing pandemic.
As businesses begin to reopen, many companies are introducing measures to ensure public safety amid the pandemic, including limited indoor capacities, mandated mask guidelines, temperature checks, and more. At the same time, a number of employers have been sued by the families of employees who contracted the coronavirus. This risk of coronavirus-related litigation has spurred members of Congress to introduce legislation.
Sen. John Cornyn introduced the Safeguarding America’s Frontline Employees to Offer Work Opportunities Required to Kickstart the Economy (Safe to Work Act on July 27. On Thursday, the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), announced its support of the legislation, stating that the bill protects businesses from coronavirus-related litigation as companies reopen.

NexusMods, a large platform and gathering place for modding PC games, has banned all content relating to the U.S. elections following a flood of troll content, saying “we’ve decided to wipe our hands clean of this mess.” Not exactly headline news, no, but a reminder that the toxic behavior frequently seen (and blamed) on social media is pervasive even in niches where politics would seem to be completely irrelevant.
“Modding” (as in modifying) is the practice of creating new content for games that players can then install on their own, for example adding new levels or characters, or adjusting the interface or difficulty. NexusMods is one of the larger collections of such mods, and a lively community.
Unfortunately, even something as simple as a way to add decorative tapestries to Skyrim is a proxy political battleground, with numerous mods appearing to, for example, replace generic enemies in a game with

For most of us around the world, the last six months have been, to say the least, difficult and confusing. And now many of us are experiencing “pandemic fatigue.” As a physician, I’m frequently asked by family, friends and colleagues, “How are you staying healthy during the pandemic?”
First, let’s set aside the politics of the issue. In a presidential election year, it is no surprise that issues around the pandemic have become political. Perhaps the surprise is how political every aspect has become. I prefer to look at the evolving facts.
As a physician and scientist, my personal decisions and recommendations to friends, families and patients are based on science. While the knowledge and science on this pandemic have continued to evolve, there are some things that we know. We should use these facts, and the recommendations that flow
Light therapy is safe and has measurable effects in the brain, according to a pioneering study by researchers from the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Senior investigators Rajiv Gupta, MD, PhD, director of the Ultra-High Resolution Volume CT Lab at MGH and Benjamin Vakoc, PhD, at the Wellman Center led the study, which was supported by a grant from the Department of Defense (DOD) and published in JAMA Network Open September 14th.
This study is one of the first, if not the first, prospective, randomized, interventional clinical trials of near-infrared, low-level light therapy (LLLT) in patients who recently suffered a moderate brain injury. If further trials support these findings, light therapy could become the first widely-accepted treatment for this type of injury.
TBI is the leading cause of traumatic injury worldwide, and an estimated 69 million people experience such an injury every year. However, there are
