In case you weren’t already spending too much time on Slack while you work from home, the company on Wednesday teased a slate of new features aimed at drawing you in further. Starting next year, by handing over your private link, you’ll be able to get direct messages on Slack from anyone from any company. The company is also exploring features that will let you instantly join or leave an unending audio call that is perpetually going on in the background of a channel, and upload asynchronous video with a feature similar to Instagram’s Stories.
The new push-to-talk, instant audio feature is aimed at replicating the brief conversations found in office settings, while the pre-recorded video messaging options look to provide more flexibility for companies with routine video meetings, the company said.

Slack is working on a set of experimental features, like the ability to share short videos and make audio-only channels team members can drop into for casual conversations. Asynchronous video updates may appear at the top of channels and resemble the short videos or Stories made popular by Snapchat and copied by Facebook apps. LinkedIn introduced short videos like Stories for its workplace social network in the U.S. last month.

Cole Haan partnered with Slack to create a limited-edition sneaker collection inspired by the popular business communication platform.
The shoes — which retail for $120 and will officially be available on October 7 — come in Slack’s four signature colors and prominently display the tech company’s logo.
According to Cole Haan, the sneakers were inspired by “the pandemic-related rise of remote working” that has led many businesses to lean heavily on programs like Slack.

Messaging and collaboration service Slack Technologies (WORK) – Get Report has suffered a service disruption Monday due to technical issues.
“Some users may be experiencing slowness with Slack in the desktop, browser and mobile at this time,” the company posted on its web site at 10:05 am ET. “The issue is impacting sending messages and troubles with API [application program interface] calls. Our team is looking into it and we will follow up with more updates in 30 minutes.”
In the latest update, time-stamped 1:06 pm ET, the company said: “The investigation is still ongoing, but the scope has stayed the same. We’ll update you again in a half hour.”
The outage hasn’t hurt Slack shares. They recently traded at $28.17, up 1.35%, and have climbed 25% year to date. The company has benefited from the heavy technology needs of workers staying at home due to the coronavirus
