Another year, another iPhone. (Did I say that last year?) This is the iPhone’s last year of tweendom before it hits teenhood: Apple announced its four-model iPhone 12 line on Tuesday, the first major revamp of the iPhone’s design since 2017’s iPhone X, which introduced face unlocking and better screen technology. This year they sport an array of colors, more models and 5G wireless support across the lineup. In addition to the HomePod Mini smart speaker, we were treated to the MagSafe wireless charging system for the iPhone and a stealth release of the $50 Beats Flex wireless headphones.

Apple’s late to the 5G party (if you can call it “late” when the party’s just started), and incorporating the new wireless tech poses potential problems for

Will we ever get AirTags?

Apple

This story is part of Apple Event, our full coverage of the latest news from Apple headquarters.

We’re crossing our fingers that AirTags might finally make their grand entrance at Apple’s rumored November event, when the tech giant is expected to announce the first Mac laptop with Apple silicon. Otherwise, it might not happen until March 2021, by tech analyst Jon Prosser’s estimations.

The AirTag tech was hinted at in the code for iOS 13 last summer, but rumors were circulating even before that

The best Amazon Prime Day gaming deals to snag today

Prime Day has always been the better for the PC gamer––at least, until this year. Lying among the keyboards and neon mice are deals for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo goodies than we’ve ever seen on Amazon’s official holidays. And we’ve been covering it for a long time, so trust us!

How to do Prime Day right

In the past Amazon Prime Day has been a one day deal, but it’s grown so popular over time that it’s now grown into two. The deals are only available to Amazon Prime subscribers, which typically costs $119 annually. In addition to two-day shipping on a massive selection of products, you also get access to the Amazon Prime streaming library, photo storage, the ability to find out special deals using Alex devices, and more. There’s even a version of Prime for students, which offers a six-month free trial and only costs $6.49 a month

Your tech news digest, by way of the DGiT Daily tech newsletter, for Monday, 12 October 2020.

1. UWB is ultra, it’s wideband, and Apple’s announcing it tomorrow?

Here’s a little preview of the future via Samsung, which said today in a blog post that says it expects UWB to be one of the “next big wireless technologies”.

What’s UWB?

  • UWB, or ultra-wideband, looks like the next big thing as it allows for fast data transfer over longer ranges, with precision location services baked in.
